Mirvish Village – Westbank WalkShops
Jane co-designed and facilitated participatory walks around Mirvish Village as part of Westbank’s community engagement process seeking input on the project’s design, housing priorities and heritage treatment.
One WalkShop examined how African and Caribbean Canadian heritage can be reflected in the proposed development. The area’s layered history includes the development of Bloor and Bathurst as a commercial hub of significance to waves of immigrants and, in particular, African and Caribbean Canadians. Input gathered at the WalkShop and affiliated art show at Markham House was used to inform and guide heritage interpretation and design approaches on streets, alleyways, signage, plaques, murals, and in buildings, retail spaces, parks and public spaces.
